Outcomes linked benefit design drives engagement and weight loss

Obesity is a significant cost driver, it is a major risk factor for many of the most expensive and debilitating chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes.  Employing a population health management program focused on preventative screenings and reducing body mass index with an outcomes linked benefit design can deliver results over the short and long-term.

In a recent review of a financial services client utilizing the Healthy Weight Healthy Heart program from Abacus Health Solutions saw dramatic impacts on overall engagement with their Primary Care Physicians and continued follow up on key health behaviors.

A financial service client, enjoyed a 74% rate of participation in year 1 of the program, 62% of which had a BMI of greater than or equal to 30, showing the program’s ability to engage the at-risk population.  68% of those who needed to lose some weight did.  While the overall population saw a 2-point decrease in their BMI.  In addition, member annual risk and age-related screenings increase significantly with cancer screenings rising above health plan norms.

The client provided the intervention to all employees and spouses on the health plan
