Outcomes linked benefit design drives engagement and weight loss

Obesity is a significant cost driver, it is a major risk factor for many of the most expensive and debilitating chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes.  Employing a population health management program focused on preventative screenings and reducing body mass index with an outcomes linked benefit design can deliver results over the short and long-term. 

In a recent review of a financial services client utilizing the Healthy Weight Healthy Heart program from Abacus Health Solutions saw dramatic impacts on overall engagement with their Primary Care Physicians and continued follow up on key health behaviors.

A national food service provider, saw a 70% participation among employees, a rate nearly 3 times the national average.  25% of those who opted into the program had a BMI greater than or equal to 30 at the start of the program, showing the programs ability to engage at risk members.  95% of those engaged in the program completed an annual physical along with age and risk related screenings with their primary care physician.  Health plan members lost an average of 12.94 pounds which equates to 1074 pounds company wide in year one of the program with over 3000 pounds lost in the total 3 years of the program.
